Why We Don’t Use Sulfates, Silicones, or Parabens
You’ve probably seen these three ingredients on the “no” list of many clean beauty brands, including ours.
At Auviya, we leave out sulfates, silicones, and parabens not because it’s trendy but because we believe your scalp is skin, and what you use daily should respect it.
Here’s why we said no to these three, and what we chose instead.
🧼 1. Sulfates: The Sudsy Strip-Down
What they are: Harsh detergents (like SLS or SLES) that create a rich lather.
Why they’re used: They clean well,m sometimes too well.
Why we avoid them:
- Strip natural oils from scalp and hair
- Can trigger dryness, flakiness, or itch
- Often too harsh for sensitive or daily use
What we use instead:
Gentler, plant-derived surfactants that cleanse without over-stripping, so your scalp feels refreshed, not tight.
✨ 2. Silicones: The Smoother That Coats, Not Heals
What they are: Synthetic ingredients that give hair a silky, “slip” feeling.
Why they’re used: They make hair feel instantly soft and smooth.
Why we avoid them:
- Coat the hair without actually nourishing it
- Create buildup that weighs down fine hair
- Block moisture from penetrating the strands
- Can leave your scalp congested
What we use instead:
Organic oils and plant extracts that hydrate from within, no coating, just care.
🧪 3. Parabens: The Preservative That Overstayed
What they are: Synthetic preservatives used to extend shelf life.
Why they’re used: Effective and cheap.
Why we avoid them:
- Linked to irritation in sensitive skin
- Better, safer alternatives now exist
- Not in line with clean, gentle daily care
What we use instead:
Mild, safe preservatives (used in low %), carefully chosen to keep our formulas stable and skin friendly.
So… What’s Left?
A lot of good.
When we removed sulfates, silicones, and parabens, we didn’t leave your hair naked. We replaced them with:
